October 20th, 2003
After a debilitating
injury Kristin Sheriff returned to pitching giving two strong performances at
the Lancaster Showcase. Kristin threw her first pitch to a roaring crowd that
brought both joy and tears. Her teammates asked Kristin to make her familiar run
to the mound while they waited for her on the field. She threw a warm-up pitch
that sailed away from the catcher and although Kristin was a little worried at
first her drive and determination prevailed as her first pitch was in there for
a strike. She then retired the side with ease and later closed the game to a
standing ovation. After the game the team signed the winning ball and presented
it to Kristin so that she would always remember her miraculous comeback.
Her pitching coach Bill Corbett was on hand and was visibly moved by the
unfolding events. When asked Kristin said she felt nervous at first, but after
throwing a first pitch strike and hearing the support of the crowd she thought,
"I can do this". Kristin also came in to relieve in the last game of the
tournament and sealed the victory. Kristin did not allow any runs on both trips
to the mound. We feel incredibly lucky and happy that she is back to pitching
and we are sure Kristin will continue to get stronger and stronger.
